New method to aid your 'big day'

On an early Saturday afternoon, Mindy Liu and her fiance Gao Haifeng were
watching a wedding ceremony in the city's west side.

Liu kept jotting notes, while discussing with Gao in a low voice. The two
have never met the bride and groom before, nor the other guests at the
ceremony.

Liu and Gao, as well as other young couples at the scene, were in fact
attending a wedding demo hosted by their wedding planning company.

As the local wedding season gears up this year, attending wedding demos
is becoming a trend for couples who want to avoid unexpected hiccups on
the big day.

The demos feature real wedding scenarios, from receptions to the
bride-and-groom dance, all free of charge.

Since their first appearance last December, wedding demos are now offered
by 10 wedding planning companies.

The city is expected to host 140,000 to 150,000 weddings this year,
according to Chen Yu, a spokesperson for the Shanghai Economic Committee,
as the Year of Dog, according to the lunar calendar, is considered an
auspicious year for weddings.

One restaurant often holds two weddings on the same day. Schedules are
packed, and always another wedding is lining up.

"You never know how many things can go wrong in a wedding, and now you
don't even have enough time to fix them," said Liu.

Helen Huang, director of the Shanghai Wedding Trade Association, favors
the wedding previews.

"I think they can reduce the wedding day blues for many, and prevent
couples from getting cold feet," said Huang.

"Now I can roughly work out the timetable on my big day," said Liu. "And
I will also watch out for little details according to my notes. It saves
us lots of time."
