Shanghai is hosting three international food trade fairs this week -
further evidence that the city is a key entry point for companies looking
to win the palates of Chinese consumers.
Sponsored by Koelnmesse Gmbh, a Germany-based organization representing
40 trade fairs and specialist exhibitions, Sweets China, World of Food
China and International FoodTec China have drawn an estimated 750
exhibitors to the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center in Pudong
for a four-day run that ends on Thursday.
Some 60 percent of the companies are from overseas, seeking to tap the
huge potential of the Chinese market.
"These companies are looking toward the future market," said Wolfgang
Kranz, executive vice president of Koelnmesse GmbH.
As incomes rise, Chinese consumers are becoming more and more willing to
spend on high-quality processed food, he said.
