Hello, is there anyone at home?

A woman who had her handbag taken after leaving it when she went for a
toilet break is now worried because the presumed thief mailed her driving
license back to her earlier this week.

Chen, a shopkeeper, lost her mobile phone, keys and car papers in the
theft, but got the license back two days later.

She presumed it was the thief who sent her the document and is only now
thinking of changing the locks on her house.

Taipei County residents set kiss of life record

A Guinness World Record for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been
set in Taipei County, Taiwan Province, with 3,249 residents
simultaneously giving the kiss of life.

Ranging from a four-year-old girl to a 97-year-old grandma, they gathered
in a public square in teams of six to give simulated CPR to plastic
manikins.

The four-year-old particularly impressed onlookers with her skills in
calling a first-aid hotline, pinching the nose of the dummy and helping
it "breathe".

Finally, organizers announced they had broken the world record, created
by 2,308 Austrians last year. Videos of the activity will be mailed to
the Guinness World Records office for final approval.

Life on street better than school, runaway kid says

A youngster who was tired of the pressure of school life opted to run
away from home and collect rubbish on the streets, in Wenzhou, Zhejiang
Province.

Axing, 14, left home at the end of last month and, after a two-week
search, police found him in a cyber caf, but refused to return home.

Axing was enrolled at a top junior middle school because of his good
grades, but was fed up with studying every day during the summer holidays.

The final straw was when his parents made him promise to come in the top
three students in the new semester. Axing was quoted as saying he led a
tough but happy life picking up rubbish and sleeping in the park at night.

Lightning strikes more than twice for pig farmer

A pig farmer distraught by the repeated loss of livestock caused by
lightning strikes in Xiamen, Fujian Province, has sought professional
help.

In June the farmer, surnamed Gong, lost five pigs after they were hit by
lightning. Since then, every time there has been a thunderstorm the
farmer's pigpen has been struck.

Experts determined the pigsty was acting as a lightning conductor and
suggested he installed a lightning rod.
